As a little girl sitting in church, listening to those songs of old around Christmas always lead me to in my imagination, skate in worship to the Lord Most High. I would shut my eyes picturing choreography, beautiful melodies drawing the brushstrokes of my movement across the luminous ice. This daydream of mine finally came to a tangible reality in the gift of a dear friend, Julia. Her voice is that of an angel, but more so, I see her heart as she sings… it’s praises to her King & I see her let go… a beautiful freeing moment where all her cares grow dim, & the lyrics sooth her soul. I’m drawn to those moments where you can see where God meets someone & for her, I see that in her singing. She makes me cry every time.
Our talents are quite different, but we join forces into one accord because we serve the same God. The Lord of Lords, King of Kings… Jesus. I invite you to have ears to hear & eyes fixed on the One that redeemed us all. In Him, we get to come to the table, as we are, & made whole. In Him, we are invited into His presence to experience His goodness, His faithfulness, & worship Him in all His GLORIOUS SPLENDOR.
Both Julia & I have a tendancy to strive for perfection, but plot twist, the beauty in these pieces is that for her, the beginning process she has been sick, packed with work as a teacher, & unable to perform to her standard. For me, I had surgery earlier this year, unable to walk for months, & prior to that, haven’t trained or performed in 5 years. I have been in “hiding” the past 3 years since my move to the city. I’ve always loved the spotlight & performing, but for some reason, God has had me in a very, very different season than any other time in my life. It’s a beautiful shift both physically, & mentally, to have stepped back, & breath. I’ve been able to see things in my life like never before. I’ll be honest though, haha, I’m terrified to display my heart out there again… I see dance & skating as an extension of my heart to the Lord. But He calls us to come as we are. Not to try in our strength to clean up the mess, & once it’s all perfect, come. We are simply called to come as we are.
This performance wasn’t perfect, but it was honest. And Jesus humbled Himself to come in the form of man, no reputation to lay down His life for us without performance. He was perfectly himself… lived a perfect life real & true… & came to served the lost, the brokenhearted. He came to die for your sins & mine. He took it upon Himself to offer His life so that in Him, we might truly LIVE. As for this little collaboration, it’s raw moments intended only to Glorify Jesus & lift His name up for all He has done & who He is. He is the I AM. The beginning & the end. The Rock of Ages. To give a fragrant offering of worship to Jesus is the reason for this season. May He be a refreshment to your soul, & may this be honoring to Him.
O Holy Night
O Holy Night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior's birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!
Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine
Oh night divine
Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming
Here come the wise men from Orient land
The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger
In all our trials born to be our friend
Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name
Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus
’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His word;
Just to rest upon His promise;
Just to know, Thus saith the Lord.
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him,
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er,
Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more.
O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
Just in simple faith to plunge me,
’Neath the healing, cleansing flood.
Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life, and rest, and joy, and peace.
I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.
